The year 2010 marks our 275th Anniversary
We have decided that, rather than have a one-day event, we would spread the celebration over a period of time, concluding with a very special weekend, November 12th with our finale on November 14th. You might ask, why should we celebrate? A church that has a strong sense of its history will have a better sense of identity to build on for the future. Periodically, every congregation should take a look back to rediscover how its church came into being, what its early ministry was like, and how it has grown and changed over the years.
Such a celebration gives individual members the opportunity to join together in focusing on the church as a body of believers who have been blessed by the Lord. It can also be a wonderful time to benefit from the gifts of the people. And it's an occasion for church members of all ages to tell and hear stories of the past and present days of this special church.
We are also planning:
- publication of the parish registry from 1825 – 1905
- publication of vestry minutes from 1829 – 1844
- archaeology report
- concert on the lawn
- memorabilia and quilt display
- joint event with Scotchtown
- reenactment of Patrick Henry’s speech
- presentation of church architecture
- a feast
- and our finale on November 14th with special guest, our Bishop Shannon.
Check our calendar for dates and times for all upcoming events.
Past Events at The Fork Church
November 2009
The Fork Church Opera is once again planning a show for Saturday 21 November 2009. The show begins at 6:15pm.
December 2009
Heavenly Stew will again be sold at the Parish House on Saturday 12 December 2009 starting at 12:30 p.m. Last year we sold out early, plan wisely.
The Fork Church is an active church. We participant in various events at the church. Some of the events are fun socials, while others are for purposes of fund raising for youth and/or mission trips.
A Night at the Opera (and dinner too!) benefited the
future Youth Group Mission trips. In late October 2008
members of the church performed a parody of The Phantom
of the Opera. Return here later to view images of that
evening and other events too! For more information about
this event see the January 2009 edition of the Virginia Episcopalian, page 23.
